Don't you just love it when Marvel realizes that they have a very popular franchise on their hands? Especially when they go into turbo-overdrive and create ten-million series and spinoffs and guest spots... you know, like what happened to Wolverine? Everyone got so annoyed from his over-usage that they got tired of the character. It was going to happen to Spider-Man too, but they managed to stop before they got TOO carried away...
Well, guess what, true believers? It looks like it's going to happen to Deadpool too.
After his newly gained popularity last year (possibly due to his appearance in X-Men Origins) they took advantage of it VERY quickly. Not only did he still have his normal on-going series, but he also played a main spot in two Thunderbolts issues and had a short mini-series. That's all fine and dandy, but they gave him TWO more on-going series in the same year, Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth and Deadpool Team-Up. And this year, they're going to give him a FOURTH on-going series, Deadpool Corps. (which was originally going to be another mini-series, to lead into Lady Deadpool's comic). Not only that, but he's also going to be part of the X-Force (geez, a lot of stuff going on at once...). Is it just me... or are they going a little overboard?
They should at least put the hold on Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth, because seeing that Deadpool Corps. is going to have him teaming up with Alternate-Universe versions of himself (Merc With a Mouth has himself teaming up with his Marvel Zombies counterpart, "Headpool") there won't be much of a point with that series anymore... and besides, just 3 series makes it confusing for continuity-sake. Does Marvel really want their newest star to end up being the next Wolverine? And after such a short period, too... I guess we'll just have to play the waiting game.
Oh yeah, here's a link:
